In summer we dance outdoors using the name 'Waterlelie'.  Location: the kiosk in the 'Leidse Hout. Houtlaan 100, Leiden

Music...
The music is played by Peter using the name PeLe.. He combines both traditional and modern tango's in his own unique way. The largest part of the afternoon is focused on traditional tango, somewhere between 5 and 6, we change to modern orchestras and sometimes, neo or worldmusic. As passage between the two styles we dance Chacarera. With such variety, everybody can dance on her or his favorite music.

The Weather...
The 'Waterlelie' has a roof. Even if it pours, the dancefloor stays dry. We don't stay home for a drop of rain. But if it rains heavily and there are gusts of wind, we cancel the afternoon. We use information of www.buienradar.nl to make a decision. If we cancel dancing that afternoon, you can read it on the frontpage of the site at 12 o'clock. If there's nothing there, it means, we're at the 'Waterlelie' dancing.

The 'teahouse'...
Until 17:00, the 'teahouse' 'de Leidse Hout' is open to have a drink or sit outside. You can't take your drinks to the dancefloor. After 17:00 it's not possible anymore to make use of the 'teahouse'. Of course you can bring your own drinks and something to eat for yourself or to share.

Toilet...
We can make use of the toilet that's in the 'teahouse'. Be aware of the closing time.

Photo's...
Every Saturday we try to make photographs of as many dancers as is possible. Every week there will be a selection of these photographs on the site. You can download them from the website. Ofcourse only for your own use and always mentioning the name of the photographer. If you don't like to be on a photo, let us know. In this way, you will not end up on our website unwillingly. If you make pictures yourself, you can always send them to us.

Visitors...
The 'Leidse Hout' is a recreational park for young and old, where you can take a stroll or play. There's a playground, a big field where you can walk your dog. There's the 'teahouse' where you can sit down and have a drink outside, watching the children at the playground. There is also a small park with deer, peacocks, chicken and with a bit of luck the storks breeding there. Around the pond there are benches where you can sit quietly listening to the tango music, if the frogs won't be to loud. Young or old, experienced or novice, everybody is welcome. More information about the park and the activities, click on 'Vereniging Vrienden van de Leidse Hout'.

How to get there...

The 'Leidse Hout' is located between Leiden and Oegstgeest. How to get there?
Walking (10 to 15 minutes) from Leiden central station:
Walk to the back (seaside) of the station and turn, to the right. Cross the 'Rijnsburgerweg', and walk 40 meters to the left. Then turn right onto the 'Boerhaavelaan'. Continue walking straight and, at the end of the 'Boerhaavelaan', you turn left, onto 'Zweilandlaan'. Continue walking for 200-300 meters, just after the corner to the right, there's the entrance of the park. Walk past the 'teahouse'(opposite the Diaconessenhuis) and you can see the 'Waterlelie' which is the actual name of the kiosk.

For the route click here.

By car, from A44:
Take the exit 'Oegstgeest direction Leiden' than follow Rhijnzichtweg-Greverstraat-Leidsestraatweg-Rhijnsburgerweg (one long street) and follow the signs to Diaconessenhuis. (Go left before the railwaytunnel).
Opposite the Diaconessehuis is the entrance of the 'Leidse Hout'. Passing the 'teahouse' you can see the 'Waterlelie'

If you come from E19/A4, use the N206 Leiden zuid-west (Churchilllaan) to the A44. It's not the shortest but it is the easiest route, certainly on Saturday. The city is too crowded during the weekends.

Parking near the 'Waterlelie' is free in the weekend.

Sleeping over...
If you come from afar and you want to stay a little longer in Leiden and the surrounding villages or the beach and dunes, finding a hotel, is easy. Use either google or tourist information. There are several campingsites in the neigborhood. The closest by is 'De Stochemhoeve' in park 'Cronesteijn',Leiden.
